Two simultaneous equations in two unknowns. To solve for x and y try the elimination method or the substitution method.

OpenStudy (aum):

Substitution method: From second equation find x. x = 2 + 3y. Put this in the first equation and solve for y. Then solve for x.

OpenStudy (aum):

Elimination method: Multiply second equation by -10 and add it to the first equation to eliminate y. Solve for x and then solve for y.

Not like that. Find x from the SECOND equation. 11x − 30y = 25 ---- (1) x−3y = 2 ---- (2) From (2): x = 2 + 3y Put this in (1) 11(2 + 3y) - 30y = 25 22 + 33y - 30 y = 25 3y = 25 - 22 = 3 y = 1 Put y = 1 in (2): x - 3(1) = 2 x = 5. x = 5, y = 1.
