Arlo works at a paint store. A formula for a certain color calls for 3/5 L of green paint. Arlo wants to make 1/3 less paint than the formula creates. How much green paint should Arlo use?Express your answer as a fraction in simplest form.

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

First you need to make both fractions have common denominators. Multiply the top and bottom by 3 in 3/5, and multiply the top n bottom by 5 in 1/3. You should have 9/15 for the amount of green paint, and 5/15 for the amount less that Arlo wants to use. Subtract 9 from 5. The answer is 4/15, and it cannot be further simplified.
