OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

genetics and such !!! quick question ~ Is this statement correct? Mitosis and Meiosis are similar by being cellular processes and both creating specific cells.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

Mitosis is a type of *cellular division that begins with a special diploid cell and by the end of the process we have a sperm or egg with half the number of chromosomes (haploid cells). Meiosis is the *cell process which produces gametes. also are these firm definitions ok/true etc. ??

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

They should be true, yes

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

The statements are confusing. Sperm/egg and half number chromosomes only happen in meiosis as far as I know.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

thank uuuu ~

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

waa you deleted your other answer ? ;o

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

@kobeni-chan hii can you give Luigi0210 a medal for me? ;o

OpenStudy (kobeni-chan):

sure

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

the mechanism is almost similar Mitosis occurs in the somatic cell, and while meiosis occur in the germ cell. Somatic pertains to anything else in the body except the gametes because that is the germ cell. Mitosis and meiosis' processeces of division are quite similar, the slight difference is that there are more steps in meiosis and that the former results in a diploid and the latter haploid.
