HELP MEH! WILL FAN AND MEDAL!!! What methods were used to keep blacks from exercising their constitutional rights?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The methods used was Jim Crowe laws, which she unsuccessfully had challenged in the Tennessee Supreme State court in1887!Blacks were at that time not allowed to vote in practically no state in the union,so they had little recourse to challenge grievances they may have had.Intimidation was the biggest factor as any black that forgot their place was subject to mob violence and public lynchings. This was not only in the south but many states in the north as well,as blacks were generally given the most miserable of jobs and kept segregated from whites by quartering them in sections of cities and towns usually unwanted and undesirable by the white race.A black man or woman that spoke out against the Jim Crowe system at that time, which was just more of legalized slavery could cost them everything including their life. Ida Wells-Barnet, went on to become a founding member of the NAACP and worked in the woman's suffrage movement. She went on to Europe, especially England at that time to plead the black race's case cause she thought The United States was hopeless at that period. <wow thats long XD>
