**When countries, businesses, and individuals have differences to resolve, they have several options.** The most direct method of resolving differences is to bargain. In bargaining, the involved parties communicate directly, stating what they want and what compromises they might accept. Or the parties might prefer mediation. Mediation involves a neutral third party who listens to both sides, then suggests possible ways of resolving the dispute. The disagreeing sides might also turn to arbitration.
