And it was a silence, so silent, like none I had ever heard before.I could hear the blood rushing through my veins, my heat beating faster than I had ever thought possible. I felt like I could no longer breathe. Memories flashed before my eyes; the bell ringing on the last day of school, my first kiss, exploring the woods near my house when I was younger... And then suddenly, I felt nothing at all. It felt as though someone had simply wiped the thoughts from my mind, because all I could feel was my body falling through the air. I knew I would feel it soon, the regret of jumping. I knew the feeling well enough, on those summer days when the water of the pool was absolutely freezing. The moment I would be courageous enough to jump into what I knew would feel like a bucket filled with ice, I regretted it the second my feet left the ground.
