Why are the equations considered models, instead of representations of the real behavior?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because while they may be valid at the time, the variables in equations chosen to represent real life are subject to change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so because you can change an equation based on the situation, its a model of the situation instead of a set in stone kind of thing?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. In a word problem, it is a representation of exactly that situation, and nothing else

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Even then, such equations are likely not taking everything into account

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but they make a good prediction tool because you base the equation off on the information you have for that specific situation, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They just aren't the absolute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kay. thanks
