OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hydrocarbons are compounds containing hydrogen and carbon only. They include gases (eg methane, propane), liquids (eg hexane, benzene) and solids (eg paraffin wax). Carbohydrates are compounds containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, with hydrogen and oxygen present in the same ration as in water ie H2O. They include sugars (eg glucose, fructose, sucrose) and starches (eg amylose, amylopectin). See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrocarbon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbohydrate
