The first one is c. 5 + 0.5m because, it's automatically 5 dollars and then 50 cents per mile. The "m" by the "0.5" means that it'll be multiplied by however many miles. For instance. If the taxi drove you 5 miles... It'll be 5 dollars plus 50 cents time each mile. Which would equal... 5 + .5(5) = 5 + 2.50 = 7.50... Hopefully i explained it good enough without you getting confused.
