by dividing the whole expression with 4a, you'll get (a^2+a-12). factoring the quadratic expression, you'll have (a+4)(a-3) in determining the factors of the q.e., notice that the third term is -12.. the factors of -12 which when added makes 1 as it is the coefficient of a in the 2nd term, are 4& -3 so you'll have (a+4)(a-3)
