Henry VIII broke with the Catholic Church in order to obtain a divorce from his first wife Catherine. T or F
What do you think it is?
Isn't it true? I cant remember clearly but I thought that was at least part of it.
Yes, is true, because King Henry was married to Catherine of Aragon. Then, he fell in love with Anne Boleyn and wanted to marry her. He asked the pope to grant him a divorce, but the pope refused because it was against the Catholic Church to get a divorce. After 7 years, Henry declared that the pope had no power over him and the pope excommunicated him. In 1534, Henry has parliament declared him the head of a new church, the Church of England, or the Anglican Church. This was a Protestant Church.
