whats A= 1/2d1d2

OpenStudy (phi):

Do you mean \[ A = \frac{d_1\ d_2}{2} \]? that looks like a formula to find the area of a rhombus, using the lengths of its diagonals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes that is what I mean, thanks. I just got the homework today and have 3 problems left

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

what is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve for d1 @phi

OpenStudy (phi):

start with \[ A = \frac{d_1\ d_2}{2} \] multiply both sides by 2 (that means write *2 on both sides) what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2A= d1 d2 because the other 2 crosses it out @phi

OpenStudy (phi):

you get 2/2 d1 * d1 and 2/2 is 1 and 1*d1*d2 is just d1*d2 so yes 2A = d1 d2 now divide both sides by d2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2A/ d2= d1 ?? @phi

OpenStudy (phi):

\[ d_1 = \frac{2A}{d_2} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks man really helped out , I just joined the program and i already like it! @phi

OpenStudy (phi):

it uses the idea that d2/d2 is 1 (anything divided by itself is 1) and because it's an equation, we divide both sides by d2
