was an exciting year,
when you shopped and watched movies
with friends -
or just hung out doing absolutely nothing.
There were various clubs -
sports, music, personal interests -
and countless opportunities
for
extra-curricular activities.

Girls were revealing.
Most were caked in make-up
and concerned mostly with 
jeans, short skirts,
halter tops, spaghetti straps.
"Expressing," some people described,
"expressing their femininity."
And the boys centred themselves on athletics and
girls.
The gals flipped their multi-coloured hair,
glared at you like you were a disease;
the guys merely 
gave you their backs -
but still laughed.

And the man,
with his flaming, freezing tresses
was Shin,
or Kanon,
as he strolled and smiled
at everyone he met -
the people who go to St. Marcellinus
where most boys matured
and girls loved bitter-sweetly,
and your heart
shattered
like glass when you saw
them
together.
