Does anyone know a simple example of an arbitrary equation?

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

I've never heard of an arbitrary equation, but I know that arbitrary in statistics means picked at random, so any equation would be right it seems.

@DangerousJesse Sorry I meant to say arbitrary constant, do you know any example for that? Thanks.

OpenStudy (dangerousjesse):

An arbitrary constant is just a constant that sticks around in several functions. You use them to make calculating things easier. f(x)+k when f(x)=x+9\(\times\)3, f(x)=x\(\times\)6+9-3, and f(x)=x-32 for example, k is an arbitrary constant, because you add k to whatever function you have.

@DangerousJesse Thank you so much :)
