can anyone explain to me what are the differences between iso-propyl and sec-propyl. is sec-propyl do exist? keep on confusing this thing.
we don't have iso-propyl but sec-propyl exist
Isopropyl means three carbons, one carbon linked to two similar carbon groups. For eg, isopropyl chloride is CH3-CH(Cl)-CH3, and here the similar groups are methyl groups. Sec-propyl means 3 carbons, one of them being a secondary carbon. For eg, sec-propyl chloride. But in this case, both sec-propyl and isopropyl are the same, because of the methyl groups.
thanks, really appreciate. if we need to do the nomenclature, which one should we choose? iso or sec propyl?
