I got an Idea. Why don't we have a block for the chat where we can't see the person we blocked messages? And there should be a spam control where they can't keep typing less then 3 seconds. That would stop spammers. And why can't we have little faces to put on there?
There is a block button...
lmao
Click on the name, and you'll see a big red button that says "BLOCK THIS USER"
Where we can't see there messages in the chat?
*Chat Box.
lololol
I like the spam stopping 3 seconds and its not really enough to interfere with normal chat
As for "spam buttons"; there's a button for that. It's called report abuse, or just PM a mod.
-_-
And to the emoticon idea: this is a study site, not social networking. just use \(\LaTeX\) when you want smileys. \(. .\) \(\smile\)
Well some people just stay in the chat all day -.-
It's a combination of studying and social networking. I agree there need to be some changes in the chat. I don't see any problems with emoticons. If you block someone, you'll only prevent them from messaging you. It would be a lot of work for the server to decide who can see who's messages. A better idea are chat moderators and the introduction of a chat ban, which will disable the message ability in the chat, but you can still read other people's messages. Kinda like if you're viewing the site as a guest (not logged in). Spam control was promised to us, still waiting for the admins to implement this.
Jesse, he was talking about a chat block. The message block does not filter chat or questions. Chat has a ton of problems. The solutions suggested has ranged from blowing it all up to little tweaks. We all just hope something will be done soon.
I got a good idea I see :)
Well actually allot of people have come up with this idea just never made a post
I like the idea of chat mods actually because it usually takes a while for a normal mod to deal with chat spammers
true ^ i proposed the idea a while back and showed some people that have excellent conduct on here that could be mods tbh @ashleyisakitty so far as a beginner mod she is doing a great job especially in chats and then when chats are clean she helps in questions and then she deals with post problems
My suggestion was to just give chat delete to Ambassadors.
er we can't have a chat block to not display a blocked person's chat messages because then when they are talking to someone else it might seem like people are talking to themselves/an imaginary person
survey!
Ambassadors: i. Chat delete option ii. Ability to remove or kick people from the chat Moderators i. IP Suspension option to combat serious trolls (This will make it significantly harder to evade) ii. chat ban for moderators Site: i. Email Verification required ii. Users who don't have a SmartScore of +60 cannot use the chat iii. Only certain characters can be used in your name (a -z, 1 - 0 and -) vi. You must wait an integral before posting consecutive messages v. Only 3 messages can be posted consecutively. Thoughts? Opinions? @e.mccormick
vii. Block all known proxies, including TOR and some VPNs.
Kick does basically nothing. But chat delete could help. Now a delete bot would be really nice.
Nice idea :)
But getting to 60 smart score is actually really hard Ive been stuck at 58 for a while maybe set it to 55 or 50?
The problem with limiting chat to a SS is that people are supposed to use chat to tell others when they need help. Now, if you had a 90 - your SS second delay to posting a chat...
@Donblue22 I would be at 60 or 70, but I don't come on here I like that. You've to work hard answers questions, make friends so they can fan you, and, earn medals. Then you'll be with a high SS.
@e.mccormick , yes, it doesn't, but imagine 2 -3 Ambassadors kicking the same troll from the chat over and over and over and over. He'd become rather aggravated.
And the problem is a lot of time when we have trolls on there is no one on to actually deal with the trolls so in reality it seems like you need certain people whos job is just to monitor chat.
Yes having the ability to block someone IN THE CHAT is a great idea. :D
Kick does not nessisarly remove a person from chat and, oddly, it is not always available. That is why I say kick is not very useful.
kick is only available it you hover someones image/name in a studygroup or in a chat. If you do that in a popup/profile page/fan list, the site doesn't know which section it has to kick the user from :P I think the chat should be blocked below 30, it's really easy to get 30 and it will prevent people from creating new accounts over and over again to spam the chat as they will have to get their ss to 30 everytime (which will be a pain in the spammer's posterior)
Remember when I talked about making OpenStudy Janitors? They can delete chats and threads, and also block people from the chat. They can't suspend or issue a warning. A Janitor's primary job is to regulate content and delete content. I feel since Ambassadors already do this without the use of these tools, that a handful of trusted Ambassadors should be given the ability to delete threads and so forth to help regulate the content.
:)
Good ideas both @thomaster and @Compassionate
