7a-3b=4 -14a+6b=-8 Solve the systems of equations by elimination or substitution. (I think substitution will be more fitting)

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

well honestly i think that elimination would be easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh sorry yes! Gosh i typed it wrong.sorry

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

oh lol its okay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitution would result in too many odd fractions.

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

yes it would :)

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

so what is the first step you would do if you do elimination?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply the top equation by 2. But when i tried that and continued to solve, both sides ended up equaling zero. The question is asking me for the answer as an ordered pair

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

hmm thats interesting.. did you learn about them being inconsistent, independent, and dependent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know x is independent and ybis dependent. Other than that, no.

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

no i meant if the equation is independent, dependent, or inconsistent

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

what type of algebra are you in?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im actually in geometry. We are doing an algebra review and i cant seem to remember this problem, along with a couple of others

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

ohh okay.. it has to be the same line because if you divide the second one by 2 it creates the same line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But then how would i get the actual variables?

OpenStudy (stefrheart):

well you need to find a point on the line
