is it possible of data to plot on a straight line, but have no correlation between x and y variables? explain answer.. help please :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no it's impossible because if the data points were all on the same line, then you have a perfect correlation of +1 or -1 +1 when the slope of the line is positive -1 when the slope of the line is negative

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to have correlation means you have a connection of some kind between 2 variables to have a perfect correlation means you can determine the value of one variable given another when you have points that lie on the line like that, you can predict y perfectly based on a given x value
