it is a melting pot because all of the cultures seem to mix around in our communities

a salad bowl is when multiple communities have multiple cultures but they don't mix, just like how in some communities back then, blacks and whites where mixed together but did not mix their cultures together; they didn't talk or communicate at all. thus stopping the culture mixing
