OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the sperm gamete that fertilizes an egg has a(n) _____ chromosome, it will form male offspring.

OpenStudy (cydney_morgan):

In most cases, sex determination is based off of which chromosome (either X or Y) the male donates to the offspring - in this case, you're answer would be a Y chromosome. Y = Male X = Female However, be aware that this is not always the case. Sometimes sex determination is based off of how many X's are included (XXY, XXO, etc.), such as in the case of sex determination in flies. The generic answer, however, is Y.
