SERIOUSLY PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!! ALGEBRA 2, UNIT 2, LESSON 3: Properties of Rational Exponents ALTERNATE ASSIGNMENT 1.) What is the difference in solving x2 * x2 * x2 and solving x2 + x2 + x2. Please provide an explanation, your work and solution(s).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that a multiplication sign in the first one?

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

YES

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you mean the difference between \[x ^{2}*x ^{2}*x ^{2}\] and \[x ^{2}+x ^{2}+x ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When you multiply variables with exponents, you keep the variable and add all the exponents.

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

like whats the diffrence in solving them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would the first one be?

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

x^6

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes!

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

omg thank you lol so wait but the second one ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And when you add variables with exponents, you leave the exponential number alone and add the variables. But you can only add the variables if the exponent is the same number like in your question..

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

would it be 4x^2? as the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what would be the answer to the second one?

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

4x^2

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Go back up and check how many x's you have(:

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

lol sorry i meant 3x^2

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There you go!

OpenStudy (morganchavez):

omg thank you thank you thank you !!!!!!!! your amazing thnk u sooo much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem.
