3/2x-4=2/5+7/10x??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 11/2 want me to explain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes please

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

(3/2)x - 4 = 2/5 + (7/10)x --- multiply everything by the common denominator 10 15x - 40 = 4 + 7x -- subtract 7x from both sides 15x - 7x - 40 = 4 -- add 40 to both sides 15x - 7x = 4 + 40 -- combine like terms 8x = 44 x = 44/8 which reduces to 11/2 or as a mixed fraction, it is 5 1/2

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

multiplying by the common denominator will get rid of the fractions

thank you!

OK So Step 1: Simplify both sides of the equation. |dw:1410794984608:dw| Then Step 2: Subtract 7/10x from both sides. |dw:1410795055634:dw| |dw:1410795141756:dw| And Step 3: Add 4 to both sides. ill just type the rest out 4/5x -4 + 4 = 2/5 + 4 4/5x = 22/5 Last Step 4 Divide both sides by 4/5. 4/5x / 4/5 = 22/5 / 4/5 and you get x = 11/2 But its either one because you never said you had to reduce it right?
