So when water melts from ice to water do the size of the atoms change? Nope, they stay the same size, although the temperature changes. This makes sense right? They're heating up so they melt! What is temperature though? It's the average kinetic energy of the molecules that's increasing. Kinetic energy is just energy of motion, meaning that the little particles are moving more and more.
