I NEED HELP STUCK!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two bees have found a food source. The first bee’s path to the hive follows the line\[y=\frac{ 4 }{ 5 }x\] . The second bee’s path follows the line\[y=-2x+3\] . Their paths cross at the hive. Use substitution to solve the problem. What are the coordinates of the hive?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

because both terms in x are equal to y we can equate them so (4/5)x = -2x + 3 multiply through by 5: 4x = -10x + 15 solve this for x this will give you the x coordinate find the y coordinate by plugging the value of x coordinate just found into y = (4/5) x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do the "solve this for x " part im seriously stuck ???????????/

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

add 10x to both sides of the equation 4x = -10x + 15 +10x +10x 14x = 15 x = 15/14 or 1 1/14

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

to find y: y = 15/14 * 4/5 = 3*4/14 = 12/14 or 6/7

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the coordinates of the hive = (15/14, 6/7)

OMG thank you so much, you just saved me from painful hours
