The equation you can write from this paragraph is 2125 = 1500 + 125x, where x is the number of HALF hours they can rent for. (Do you see why?) If we solve this equation, we get x = 5. So, if the 1500 covers the first 3 hours and they can rent an additional 5 half hours after that, The student council can rent the space for a total of 5.5 hours.

Unless perhaps they aren't interested in the half hours, in which case we would round up to the 6 hour mark The question should have been better stated, but 5.5 is technically correct
