Find the zeros of the polynomial function and state the multiplicity of each. f(x) = 4(x + 7)^2(x - 7)^3 4, multiplicity 1; -7, multiplicity 3; 7, multiplicity 3 -7, multiplicity 3; 7, multiplicity 2 4, multiplicity 1; 7, multiplicity 1; -7, multiplicity 1 -7, multiplicity 2; 7, multiplicity 3

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how far did you get?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

I think it is either b or d

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

When you solve (x + 7)^2 = 0 for x, you get x = -7 this will have a multiplicity of 2 because that is the exponent visually, this means that the parabola touches the x axis at -7. It does not cross over the x axis and come back up.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

so (x-7)^3 would be root 7 and multiplicity of 3?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

correct

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

having an odd multiplicity means the graph passes through that root
