Choose the equation that correctly represents the graph below. A.y=|x|-3 B.y=-|x+3| C.y=|x+3| D. y=-|x|+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where is the pic of the graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There we go, sorry about that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so first of all you can see that this graph has been flipped on the y axis. (since it is upside down). This means it has a - a value. so your x is a - in this case. then it has up shifted up 3 units so your answer will be D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So since the the graph was flipped it automatically makes it a - x, or is it only in this case?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no shift left or right. this means there is no p value. therefore anything with y = |x+3| or y = |x-3| would be wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep it makes x a negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whenever the a value is a negative. your graph is flipped on the x axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh see, I didn't know that ha, thank you very much tay! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem :)
