Srry can't help

OpenStudy (preetha):

Start with trying to eliminate one of the 2 unknowns. So multiply both equations by some number so the x terms or y terms cancel out....

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

multiply the 1st equation by 2 and the 2nd equation by 5.... this will allow you to eliminate x when the equations are added 10x + 4y = 42 -10x + 30y = -170 -------------------- 34y = - 128 solve for y the unfortunate thing about this question is that the solutions are a little nasty.... fractions with a denominator of 17 when you find y, substitute it into either of the original equations to find x hope it helps
