well its ratios of corresponding sides in similar triangles

you can prove the similarlity by Angle Angle Postulate

so looking at the large triangle the sides are 2x + 5 and 2x - 1

the smaller triangle has sides x, and x -2

so the ratio of the corresponding sides is the same

\[\frac{x}{2x + 5} = \frac{x -2}{2x - 1}\]

if you cross multiply you get

\[x(2x -1) = (x - 2)(2x + 5)\]

so then you need to distribute and simplify

\[2x^2 - x = 2x^2 +x -10\]

which becomes

\[-2x = -10\]

now just solve for x.
