weathering of parent material (rocks), temperature (freeze and thaw, precipitation and possible resulting erosion, also dissolving minerals, climate, movement by animals and translocation of soils, wind erosion, plants growth roots and also nitrogen fixing by symbiotic bacteria, organic material from decay of plants and animals and also the decomposers present, sediments laid down by flooding, animal wastes provide fertilizer
