Was Columbus a failure or a hero?

OpenStudy (litening1337):

Neither. He just discovered America by accident. I guess a hero in that case.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have to explain why he was a hero

OpenStudy (litening1337):

Can't help you there.

It's an opinion piece, so you'll want to take into consideration that he failed at discovering a faster trade rout to the Indies, but still succeeded in "discovering" -essentially a new world. Obviously everyone knows about the controversy about Columbus not discovering the Americas, but he led the Spanish and Europeans over. This led to colonization, and even the beginning of nations! In my opinion, Columbus was not a failure. However, in your response to the question I would recommend taking into consideration both sides.

Okay, thanks anyways.

@jaccy I don't believe he was a failure either. Could you give me a couple more examples of how he was a hero, or some of the other things he succeeded in? Thank you!

I found this forum/sight ... a lot of people are actually saying he should be considered a failure, with adequate responses. Take a peek. http://www.debate.org/opinions/should-christopher-columbus-be-considered-a-hero remember to take both sides of the story

Okay, thank you!
