OpenStudy (kva1992):

How would you solve: The circle x^2 + y^2 = 225 passes through the point (9,-12). Let L be the line passing through the origin and the point P. Find the equation of the line perpendicular to the line L and passing through the point P.

OpenStudy (kva1992):

im guessing you move the x to the other side to get the y by itself so it would be something like y^2=-x^2 +225 thats where i get stuck because if i square that i would get an imaginary number

OpenStudy (kva1992):

an suggestions on how i should approach this problem?

OpenStudy (freckles):

I would like to start with a drawing:

OpenStudy (freckles):

sqrt(225) is 15 right?

OpenStudy (freckles):

yep

OpenStudy (kva1992):

yeah it is

OpenStudy (freckles):

|dw:1410931538318:dw| wait what is point P?
