I think previous explanation is wrong. Sorry. 
For abs values equations - isolate abs value first adding 8 on both sides
|x| = 3
Then get rid of abs value bars:
x = 3 and x = -3
those are the answers

 x = 5 over 3, x = −19 over 3

 x = −3, x = −11

 x = −3, x = 11

Can you explain step by step what to do here so that I can do this on my own with your guidance?
