Factor the following expression by removing the greatest common monomial factor: -12x^2 -18x is the answer A. -3x(x+1) B. x(4x+6) C. 3x(4x+6) D. -3x(4x+6) i am confused because i have no idea what a monomial factor is and how to solve them?

OpenStudy (shinalcantara):

monomial is a term that's only one in nature.. say 5x is a monomial. 5x+1 is a binomial since it has 2 terms separated by plus sign

OpenStudy (shinalcantara):

what monomial could you possibly factor out such that when it's distributed it will have the same expression as the given.. say 5x^2 + 10x can be factored as 5x(x+2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you, but do i solve the equation to find the monomial?

OpenStudy (shinalcantara):

you only have to factor the given quadratic expression..

OpenStudy (shinalcantara):

say if you factor out -3x, you divide each term by -3x you'll have -12x^2/-3x =4x and -18x/-3x = 6

thanks
