Please help!! Will fan and medal! You are creating a cone-shaped hat for a kid’s costume. You measure the circumference of the child’s head and find it to be 20.5 inches. Determine the radius of the hat. You want the hat to have a slant height of 8 inches. Draw an image that models this situation and include all of the measurements you know. How much material would you need to make the hat?
\[C=2 \pi r\]
Isn't the circumference already included in the question?
yes but you're supposed to determine the radius which the knuclehead @Shroomsy already did. Apparently @Shroomsy hasn't read the Code of Conduct (below left).
Oh, dang, sorry. I just joined, just tryin to help :)
doesn't matter because @Shroomsy gave the wrong answer anyways.
I understand... but check out the code. Here, it's about helping people learn to do for themselves and not just giving out answers.
To get the diameter, divide the circumference by 3.14, then divide the diameter by 1/2 Is that better?
@mw647 you can use the formula and the value of the circumference to find the radius.
getting there... keep up the good work!
Thanks :D
@pgpilot326 is the radius 3.2627?
that's what i'm getting... good job!
:) Alright so how would I find out how much material is needed?
you need the formula for the surface area of a cone (a right cone, to be specific). you'll also need the height of the hat. they gave you the "slant" height. can you draw a representation of the hat?
