hows did u guys got that ?

OpenStudy (phi):

-(6-8n)+6=2(9+3n) first step: just looking at the -(6-8n) which means -1 * (6-8n) distribute the -1, which means multiply each term inside the parens by -1 you should get -6 + -1*-8*N which simplifies to -6 +8n you now have -6 +8n+6=2(9+3n) on the right side distribute the 2 (i.e. multiply each term inside by 2) you should get -6 +8n +6 = 2*9 + 2*3*n on the left side you have a -6 and a +6 which add up to zero the left side simplifies to 8n = 18 +6n now add -6n to both sides 8n - 6n = 18+6n -6n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why -1?

OpenStudy (phi):

8n - 6n = 18+6n -6n on the left you have 8 n's take away 6 n's on the right you have 6 n's take away 6 n's in other words, 2n = 18 last step: divide both sides by 2 (2/2) n = 18/2 simplify

OpenStudy (phi):

***why -1? *** are you asking about -(6-8n)+6=2(9+3n) we have to start somewheres, and the first thing we can tackle is this part: -(6-8n) and we should remember that we can think of -6 (for example) as -1*6 or in this case -(6-8n) is the same as -1*(6-8n) we write it that way, so it's more clear that we "distribute" the -1 we multiply each thing inside the parens by -1: -1*6 + -1*-8*n and simplify
