What are two reasons a common measuring system is important? Make sure you answer in complete sentences ASAP please
1. All calculations give the standard units of the measuring system. For instance, if you calculate a force using the 2nd law (F=ma) then when you multiply mass in kg times acceleration in m/s^2 you are guaranteed to get Newtons (N) without any need for dimensional analysis. 2. Scientist around the world can communicate without having to deal with arcane measurement systems. We can then compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges. It keeps us scientists sane. Unfortunately the astronomical community has not caught up with the rest of the scientific community and thus causes utter confusion to physicists trying to understand astronomical observations or the study of cosmology. I think they (astronomers) like it that way, makes them feel smarter then the rest of us. :-)
