How can I make this sound less wordy? Outraged, without knowing what a 4.0 GPA meant I knew I had to get one to prove him wrong, but subconsciously I think I was trying to prove to myself that I could do anything I wanted if I put the effort into making it happen

Outraged, I had to prove him wrong about my GPA. Subconsciously, I proved myself that I can do anything if I put my mind to it.
