If 2/3 = x/y, then which of the following must be true? (2 + x)/3 = (x + 2)/y 3/2 = x/y (2 + 3)/3 = (x + y)/y (2 + 1)/3 = (x + 1)/y

OpenStudy (aum):

(2 + x)/3 = (x + 2)/y cannot be true because the numerators are the same on both sides and can be cancelled which will leave with 1/3 = 1/y which is not what was given. 3/2 = x/y cannot be true because the left hand side is flipped while the right hand side is not. (2+3) / 3 = (x + y) / y 2/3 + 3/3 = x/y + y/y 2/3 + 1 = x/y + 1 subtract 1 from both sides 2/3 = x/y which is given. So this is true. You try the last one.
