HELP MY CONFUSED SOULLLLLL f(x)= x^2 + 4x - 21 f(-1) = 1 - 4 - 21= -24 Why is it a positive 1 rather than a -1? Theres no parentheses....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For -1^2 to equal positive 1, there has to be parentheses around -1 and the exponent outside. -1^2 = -1. (-1)^2 is +1
