What were the effects of the Crusades on the families of the crusades in Europe?

OpenStudy (secret-ninja):

Among other things, the Crusades also created a constant demand for the transportation of men and supplies and encouraged ship-building, extending the market for eastern wares in Europe. Between 2 million and 6 million lives were lost during the Crusades. Because so many people lost their lives, many women were left widowed, orphaned, or brother-less.
