Y= x2, y=3x2, y=3(x-2)2+1 Graph this!!!!
We have graphed similar functions a few times before. Just follow the same method.
y = x^2 is the parent function. It is a standard parabola, with vertex at the origin and opens upward. Based on this parent graph, you can graph the other two which moves, compresses, expands the graph. For example, 3x^2, stretches the x^2 graph vertically by a factor of 3. So the 3x^2 graph will be narrower than the x^2 graph. 3(x-2)^2 + 1 shifts the 3x^2 to the right by 2 units and up by 1 unit. With the above information you can sketch all three graphs.
But if you want to do it the long way, like you wanted in the previous questions, just create a table. x f(x) -1 ? 0 ? 1 ? Put a few different x values into the function, calculate the y values and plot them.
