A car accelerates from 12m/s to 18m/s in 6.0 seconds. How far did it travel in this time?

OpenStudy (theeric):

Hello! Do you understand the situation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not completely sure about it

OpenStudy (theeric):

Okay! Do you like working with pictures more, or numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

numbers

OpenStudy (theeric):

Okay! Well, which quantities do we have?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m/s, distance

OpenStudy (theeric):

initial velocity, final velocity, and time are what we have, and we need that distance! :)

OpenStudy (theeric):

So, can you think of any equations for distance?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

X2-X1

OpenStudy (theeric):

That's not an equation, though! Equations have equal signs, and say that two things are equal!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

delta change in x=X2-X1

OpenStudy (theeric):

I was going for \(\Delta x=v_it+\dfrac12at^2\) You can solve for \(a\), by it's definition.
