Help Please! simplify this expression: 1/3(21m+27) (the 1/3 is 1 over 3)

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

I got 21m+9 but it wasn't an option, can someone show me where I went wrong?

OpenStudy (cj49):

1/3(21m+27) 21m/3+27/3 7m+9

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

why would you put them both over 3?

OpenStudy (cj49):

bc the whole equation is multiplied by 1/3 eg 2/3(2m+3)=2/3 x 2m and 2/3 x 3

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

oh so you kinda use the distributive property ?

OpenStudy (cj49):

yes...

OpenStudy (bookworm14):

Thanks your always such a big help !!
