Women's suffrage (also known as woman suffrage) is the right of women to vote and to stand for electoral office. Limited voting rights were gained by women in Sweden, Finland and some western U.S. states in the late 19th century.

It was so many things..in a nutshell, women decided 'hey, the whole second-class citizens thing is kind of crumby and we're tired of it', and decided to focus more energy on getting the right to vote.
