A piece of rope is 79cm long. It is cut into three pieces. The longest piece is 3 times as long as the shortest piece, and the middle size piece is 14cm longer than the shortest piece. Find the lengths of the three pieces. Can someone the problem up for me? I can solve the rest of the equation if you just set it up and show me how. Thanks!

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so the shortest length is x, the longest length is 3x and the middle length is x + 14 so you have 3x + x + 14 + x = 79 or 5x + 14 = 79 you can now solve for x.

So I solved it and got X = 13, but which numbers belong to which length? this is where I get confused too.
