so the shortest length is x, the longest length is 3x and the middle length is x + 14

so you have 

3x + x + 14 + x = 79

or 

5x + 14 = 79

you can now solve for x.

So I solved it and got X = 13, 
but which numbers belong to which length? this is where I get confused too.
