CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH FUNCTIONS?! WILL GIVE MEDALS

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I'll give you more medals if you break the suspense and ask the specific question :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, i have a few questions I need help with. Here is the first one. I seriously just don't get it. Given that f(x) = 4x - 3 and g(x) = solve for g(f(2)). 1 3 9 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will you walk me through the steps on how to do this? I don't get it.

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

I believe you just have to replace the x in the function with 2 in order to find g(f(2))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I'll try that. I'll let you know what I end up getting.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I replaced x with 2, and I got 6...which is not an option...

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

Are you sure those are the answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Positive

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

@ganeshie8 please, help?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

I have been searching for the function g(x) but couldn't find it out, could you please confirm if its missing at your end also ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

`f(x) = 4x - 3 ` where is g(x) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) = 2x-1 ------- 3

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

thanks! so you have got f(2) = 6 earlier right?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

but the question is not just about f(2), they want you find g(f(2))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't get how to do this at all. And no, I got 5 for the first equation, and 1 for the second equation. And I added them together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have no idea what I'm doing.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Oh ok

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

so you got f(2) = 5

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

g(f(2)) = g(5) evaluate the function g at 5

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

g(x) = 2x-1 ------- 3 g(5) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x)=3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where did you get the 5 from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8

OpenStudy (ashley_f97):

5 is from the first function you solved.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

g(5) = 3 is correct ! Overall : g(f(2)) = g(5) = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you! Can I ask a few more? I think I only need help with like 2 or 3 more.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

sure :) please ask it in a separate thread, will try to answer
