The town of Maxwell increased its annual budget from $1,300,000 to 1,800,000. Find the percent increase in the budget . HELP PLEASE

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

What is the change in budget? Ie what is the increase amount?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

500,000

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

now divide that change by the original amount (500,000)/(1,300,000) = 0.3846 and finally multiply that by 100 to convert over to a percentage: 0.3846*100 = 38.46%

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so you have roughly a 38.46% increase

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have to round it to the nearest tenth

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

38.46% -----> 38.5%

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you look in the tenths place, then look to the next digit over if it's greater than 5, you round up. If not, you round down
