3/8 = 12/32

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

this is true since you can multiply by 4/4 the left part to obtain the right part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't get it please explain to me in details

OpenStudy (p0sitr0n):

3/8 and 12/32 are the same fractions. It is just that 12/32 is not reduced. try to factor both the numerator and the denominator. you get (3*2*2)/(2*2*2*2*2). From this, you can cancel the common numbers on top and on bottom. Thus you can get rid of the top two 2's and the bottom two 2's. This gives you 3/(2*2*2) =3/8

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

\[3/8 = 12/32\] \[(3\times4)/(8\times4) =12/32\] \[(12)/(32) = 12/32\] \[12/32 = 12/32\]
