So as all of you may know, I've have been working with a couple of devs to produce a new openstudy.
As you may know, We have been having problems with cpanel (This allow us to control phpmyadmin, mysql, etc.) Well once we did that, took 10 hours to install, after that we went into an irc to get help, come to find out we don't even need that, so another uninstall back to debain 7. During this installation we forgot to make a backup of the files, so we lost pretty much everything. So the release date will be put back much farther then expected. New Era of OpenStudy -TrollStudy
"You can never have too many backups" - my AP CS teacher
I'm confused. Is this high-level trolling or are you guys trying to build an alternative to OpenStudy? Let's pretend you are serious. "we forgot to make a backup". How does a "couple of devs" make such a rookie mistake? For starters, you need a project manager who knows what he's doing.
A new OpenStudy?? with all the same functions? Good luck with that. It takes a huge amount of time to code a CMS that big, and on top of that: where will you get the money needed for development, hosting and bandwidth cost, advertisement and maintenance?
I've been programming since I was 12, Have 3 Highly Trained Developers on my team, and coming from my background, I'm pretty well off. Hosting is not an issue with me, neither is advertising. We have a backup, just an older version of the website. @Bibby We now have 10 back ups across github and gitlab and bitbucket. So everything will be fine for now on.
If you have "3 Highly Trained Developers" why are you using cpannel instead of just ftp'ing everything up to your domain?
@Agreene, We are now. We didn't know about cpanel till yesterday and how stupid it was, so now we are using a custom system. Everything is back up and running perfect.
